Water usage in industrial settings has significant implications for the environment, economy, and society. It can worsen water scarcity in areas with limited water resources, pollute water resources, and consume a significant amount of energy. However, industrial wastewater reclamation projects are not common due to water not being priced to reflect its true value or availability. Nevertheless, by recovering valuable compounds, these projects can generate additional revenue and support business models. Technologies like membrane-based processes, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), and hybrid membrane-thermal processes can recover water, solutes, and energy.
Therefore, the R3VOLUTION project is developing a solution toolbox that will enable more than 90% water reuse across most intensive water industries. The solution toolbox also recovers over 45% of effluent solutes, over 50% of heat reuse, and eliminates 100% of hazardous substances. The solutions include cutting-edge membrane separation processes, advanced membrane materials, and R3VOLUTION’s unique AI-based Digital Process Assistant (DPA). The DPA defines the optimal configuration for any industry case to guarantee the most efficient, economic, sustainable, and compliant wastewater treatment with minimal disruption to the operation.
The solutions toolbox can be adapted according to the sector, location, existing infrastructure, water composition, and boundary conditions, enabling water reuse circularity, solutes recovery, and energy recovery, which has vast applicability for industrial process sectors.
